Tuileries Garden

I'm sure I have misspelled Tuileries at least a half dozen times on this web site.  For some reason I just cannot get it right.  Anywho...

This was another one of our favorite places (maybe just mine, I'm not sure) in Paris.  As with the Luxembourg Gardens, it was as much due to the relaxed atmosphere and numbers of people just enjoying being there as anything aesthetic that made it special.  Even on one somewhat rainy day, the three of us camped out for a while in one of the cafe's and had coffee and something to eat.  It's really hard to beat that sort of thing.

The gardens are less impressive as gardens than other areas of Paris, but it's a nice bit of greenery in the heart of Paris.  While it's a bit cliche, one of the memoral times we had in Paris was sitting near one of the fountains and watching the sun set.  Of course the park closes at sunset and about two seconds later, workers in orange vests started kicking everyone out.  It sort of lost something at that point.

Originally the gardens for the Tuileries Palace, they now stand alone.  The palace, which closed the west side of the space currently surrounded, on three side, by the Louvre, was burnt down in the late 1800's.  Apparently there is some talk of rebuilding the palace because it helped disguise the fact that the axis of the Louvre and the axis including the Tuileries Garden, the Champs-Elysees and the Arc de Triomphe don't line up!  While I previously said that one of the most impressive things about Paris is the attention to aesthetics, this seems a bit extreme to me.
